Stamford Squash Club No.1 Spencer ‘Bez’ Beresford also plays for the RAF squash team, and on a recent tour to Hong Kong bumped into none other than the legendary ex-Stamford player Mike Ferriera, now moved on from New York and living and working in Honkers.

The RAF Team (which also included yet another ex-Stamford player, now moved to Anglesey, Glynn Williams) played against local clubs including the Hong Kong Football Club, Hong Kong Cricket Club, Kowloon Cricket Club, Hong Kong Squash Centre and the Ladies Recreational Club (LRC) where Bez played Mike (losing 3-0).

To mark the fixture, Bez bravely asked for, and received, dispensation to play in the Stamford strip pictured here, rather than the RAF Team strip, for that match.  It may not have helped him win, but he would certainly have looked good.

Now that the Squash League and Competition Season is just about over, it’s time to look to the coming year.

Firstly, we can announce the appointment of a new squash coach at the club, a specialist in Junior Coaching: Ian (‘Leckie’) Dow*.

Leckie is a Level 2 England Squash Coach, meaning that he is qualified to teach squash to juniors (including Mini-squash, for which he has all the equipment) and adults alike, is covered by England Squash and Racketball Insurance and has all the relevant ancillary certificates and clearances (CRB, Child Protection, First Aid etc).

Leckie will be starting Junior Squash Coaching sessions on Sunday Afternoons from May this year.

GROUPS
The coaching is split into two ability groups – beginner and Intermediate.

HOW MUCH?
The cost will be £4 per pupil per week for a 10-week course .

WHEN?
We are intending to start this on Sunday Afternoons in early May, and can accept a maximum of 16 pupils, so first come first served.

RACKETBALL COACHING

It’s the fastest growing sport in the UK, is all the fun of squash but without the explosive speed and fitness – ideal for those who are looking to keep fit with all the fun but a less aggressive game.

Qualified Coach. Saturday mornings from 11.30 (for one hour or longer by arangement. Equipment supplied. £4 per hour per member.
