Yorkshire’s Jenny Tranfield provided the only shock in the women’s first round, outlasting Tania Bailey and clinching the fifth set 9/7 after 84 minutes. It wasn’t subtle squash, with Tania clearly not yet back to match-fitness slugging it out with the dogged Tranfield, but it was an enthralling and entertaining match.
